Brian Griggs

Principal | Coronado Elementary

Welcome parents, guardians, and community! My name is Brian Griggs and I am excited to serve as the principal at Coronado Elementary. I have been a part of the Higley Unified School District for nine years. Before coming to HUSD, I taught in Gilbert Public Schools for twelve years. This upcoming school year will be my tenth year at Coronado Elementary.

My goal is to collaborate with students, staff, and families to create positive relationships and motivate all students to realize their maximum potential. It takes a team to help make that happen and I am honored to be a part of that team. There are many great learning opportunities ahead of us. Thank you for choosing Coronado Elementary as your partner in educating your child.

If you have any questions, please reach out at any time. Go Coyotes!

Principal Spotlight

What is your education background?

I started my career as a secondary English teacher, where I realized I could make an impact not just within my classroom but beyond. This inspired me to pursue further education, earning a Master's in Educational Technology and a Master's in Educational Leadership.

What are some of your key priorities as principal?

At Coronado Elementary, one of our key priorities is making sure that students understand their full potential. Every student who walks through our doors is guaranteed a superior education that encompasses academic and behavioral success. We emphasize creating a supportive, inclusive environment where every child can thrive.

Is there a program or initiative at your school you are particularly proud of?

I am proud of the brilliant work of our teachers who are reinforcing our P.A.W.S. character initiative, the strong collaboration among our teachers to provide an intentional learning environment for our students, the inclusivity of our students receiving SpED services, and our incredible Dual-Language Immersion (DLI) program.

What is your philosophy when it comes to working with parents and students?

My philosophy centers around the idea of community and collaboration. We have strong support from our parent-teacher organization, and I believe that by working together as a high-functioning team—including families, students, and staff—we can ensure the success of every child. Being actively involved with students and their families is what drives me every day.

How has the previous bond/override investments helped your school?

The previous bond/override allowed us to increase the security of our campus with additional cameras internally and externally, as well as allow for new student desks within classrooms.

How do you emphasize character as part of the overall education being offered?

We emphasize character through student understanding of what it means to Learn and Play the Coyote Way-Positive Perseverance, Acting Respectfully, Working to Potential and Staying Safe. This environment fosters not only academic excellence but also character development, helping students become responsible, caring, and engaged members of our school community.

What is one thing that stands out to you about the Higley Unified School District?

What stands out about the Higley Unified School District is its commitment to student success and the collaboration between staff, families, and the community. This collective effort ensures that all students receive the best possible education.

What is one thing you wish more members of the community knew about your school?

I wish more community members knew about the dedication and hard work that goes into creating a welcoming and supportive environment at Coronado Elementary. We are committed to ensuring that every student feels part of the "Coyote Nation," where "we are one."

How has your school embraced Higley Unified Strategic Plan specifically the #higleyhelps challenge?

Our Student Council and NEHS programs are creating ways for students to engage various drives that support local charities and non-profit organizations.
